Read moreEczema (atopic dermatitis) involves immune dysregulation, skin barrier dysfunction, and inflammation. CBD’s anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties may address root causes. Studies show CBD reduces inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α) that drive eczema flares. Additionally, CBD strengthens skin barrier function by supporting ceramide production, reducing water loss and improving moisture retention.
For eczema, topical CBD creams are most effective. Apply a quarter-sized amount to affected areas 2-3 times daily, gently massaging in circular motions. Look for products containing 500mg-1000mg CBD per 1oz jar. Layer with a traditional moisturizer if needed. Start with one small affected area to test tolerance, then expand if beneficial. Most users see improvement within 2-3 weeks of consistent application.
Choose CBD creams formulated with eczema-friendly ingredients: colloidal oatmeal, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid. Avoid products with added fragrance or alcohol, which can trigger flares. Full-spectrum CBD retains terpenes with anti-inflammatory properties like limonene and myrcene. For severe eczema, oral CBD (10-15mg daily) combined with topical application offers systemic plus localized support.
During acute flares, increase topical CBD frequency to 4-5 times daily. Some patients find CBD-infused balms helpful for nighttime use to prevent itching-scratching cycles. Oral CBD may help reduce the stress and anxiety that often trigger eczema flares. Dermatologists increasingly recommend CBD as a steroid-sparing option for maintenance between prescription treatments.
